Trying to figure out whether you need a root canal can be a challenging task. During the early stages of dental issues, the chances are that a professional cleaning or just better oral hygiene can solve most problems.

However, physical symptoms don’t start to appear until the condition has advanced. This is why it is essential to be aware of the signs that need to be reported to a dentist as soon as possible.

Following are some signs that might require a root canal:

  • Persistent

Minor pain in your teeth or gums once in a while isn’t something to be alarmed about. However, suppose you suffer from persistent pain and interfere with everyday activities like eating, drinking, and even talking. In that case, it may be pointing towards more severe issues, such as infections. In such cases, your dentist may suggest a root canal to ease the pain.

  • Chipped or Cracked Tooth

Eating hard food, being involved in contact sports, previous dental procedures going awry, etc., can all cause your teeth to get chipped or cracked. This can expose the nerves beneath the surface of the tooth and lead to an infection. If the root of a tooth is infected, this infection can soon enter the bloodstream. Hence, it requires a root canal to prevent the spread of the infection.

  • Sensitivity

Tooth or gum sensitivity is a prevalent sign that may require a root canal. Sensitivity can start as a minor ache when you eat or drink something too hot or too cold but can soon progress into sharp and intense pain. In most cases, a root canal can fix sensitive teeth.

If you notice any of these signs, consult your dentist as soon as possible before things get worse.
