Do You Have Sinus Pressure or a Toothache?

Having tooth pain can be scary. Not only can it leave you feeling uncomfortable and uneasy, but it can also warrant a trip to the dentist – something that most people have an irrational fear of. However, having a better idea about what may be causing the pain may help calm your nerves a little.

The Connection Between Sinus Pressure and a Toothache

When you suddenly feel pain in your teeth, your first instinct may not be to think that you may be suffering from sinus pressure. However, it is important to understand that your body is a complex biological machine, and a lot of things are interconnected to each other – which includes the pain that you may experience.

While sinus pressure is directly related to the sinus area, it can sometimes feel exactly like a toothache. In fact, pain in the upper rear teeth is commonly considered a symptom of sinus infection.

However, a sinus infection usually comes with more symptoms than just tooth pain.

These symptoms include:

  • An excessive nasal discharge
  • Congestion of the nose.
  • Facial pain
  • Inconvenience when opening your mouth or trying to talk or chew.
  • Mild pain when blinking.

If your toothache is accompanied by one or more of these symptoms, it may be a good call to consult an ENT specialist instead of a dentist.

However, if you have a toothache but no other symptoms at the moment, visiting your regular dentist may help solve the issue.

Either way, it is important to get medical help as soon as possible. Unfortunately, people tend to let their toothaches go unnoticed until it becomes unbearable. This can be a huge mistake, as things can escalate quickly when it comes to oral issues.

Therefore, whether you want to visit an ENT specialist or a dentist, make the appointment as quickly as possible.
