Are you experiencing unbearable tooth pain? Here is an applicable guide to help combat toothache
A hot or cold compress can help ease tooth pain, especially if it’s due to a swollen gum or an oral injury. Cold compress (ice) constricts the blood vessels within your gums, slowing blood flow in that area, resulting in reduced swelling and inflammation. Similarly, a warm compress (peppermint tea bag) also soothes the swollen gum, providing instant relief.
A saltwater rinse is one of the oldest yet most effective tooth pain remedies. Gargling with salt water helps in reducing swelling, killing bacteria, boosting healing, and loosening debris (plaque) lodged between your teeth. Mix 1-tablespoon of salt in a warm glass of water and swish it within your mouth for 30 seconds before spitting it out.
Pro Tip: If you have recently had a root canal treatment, gargle with salt water twice a day to speed up the process of healing.
Thyme contains strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties. To create a simple thyme oral rinse, add a few drops of thyme essential oil to 8 ounces of water and mix them to make a mouthwash. Another thing that you can do is, use a cotton ball to apply the solution to the source of the tooth pain.
Even though we believe in prioritizing home remedies, the easiest relief solution is opting for over-the-counter pain relievers in case of unbearable tooth pain. These include; Aspirin, Naproxen, Benzocaine, Ibuprofen, and Tylenol.
Even if the above-mentioned remedies provide comfort and relief from tooth pain, you still need to seek professional help. Knowing that cavities are among the common causes of tooth pain, it's in your best interest to schedule an appointment with a root canal dentist
