Being Thankful for Your Teeth

A family smiling together

We use our teeth every day, but how often do we think about them and all the things they do for us? Hopefully, you care for your teeth daily by brushing and flossing, but do you consider all the ways they improve life each day?

Because Thanksgiving is a holiday devoted to being grateful for what we have, it’s the perfect time to consider your thirty-two teeth and all they do for you!

4 Reasons To Be Thankful For Teeth

  1. They work hard for you – Between helping you speak and helping you chew, your teeth are working hard for you each day! In fact, the average chewing rate is ten times per mouthful, and with three full meals a day, this equals about 30,000 chews every day!
  2. They’re pretty low maintenance – When you really think about it, your teeth don’t require that much care to keep working so hard for you. Only 5-10 minutes out of 24 hours to brush twice a day and floss daily. In addition to this, you should also be receiving regular dental cleanings and exams, which only equals two or three hours a year!
  3. They contribute to our overall health – If you do all you can to keep your teeth healthy and strong, they will help you maintain your overall health. In fact, people who care for their dental health are less likely to suffer from diabetes, strokes, heart disease, and even cancer.
  4. They help us smile – Lastly, our teeth allow us to show joy with sparkling smiles! Studies have shown that the act of smiling (even if you don’t feel happy) can reduce stress on both the mind and the body, and can boost your mood.

In the end, the best way you can show your gratitude for your teeth is to brush at least twice a day, floss daily, and visit your regular dentist every six months for a dental cleaning and checkup.
