Dental Implants Are Healthier than Dentures

If you are suffering from a missing tooth or even multiple missing teeth, you are not alone. In fact, it’s been estimated that roughly 69% of Americans aged 35-44 have at least one missing tooth. Additionally, 1 in 4 adults over 74 years has lost all of their teeth. Many people think of dentures as the best way to restore a gummy smile, but in reality, dental implants are a much better option.

Why Dental Implants Are Healthier than Dentures

Below are a few reasons why dental implants are better for your smile and your health than dentures are:

  • Simpler to care for – Dentures require cleaning overnight when they’re not being worn. They also require denture adhesives, which can be messy, sticky, and bad for your health. Dental implants are cared for like natural teeth; brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your general dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and a checkup.
  • Provides stability – Even one lost tooth can affect one’s self-confidence, believing that the gap left in the mouth detracts from their smile. Dental implants look and function like natural teeth, preventing the remaining teeth from drifting into the empty space left by the missing tooth.
  • Preserves the jawbone – If a tooth is lost and not quickly replaced, bone loss in the jaw becomes a very real possibility. Teeth can be restored with a dental bridge, partial dentures, full dentures, or a dental implant. The only option that has been proven to prevent jawbone loss is a dental implant.

Here at Syrpes & Pangborn, we know the importance of tooth retention. However, if a tooth cannot be saved using root canal therapy, dental implants are the next best option. To learn more, please contact our Centennial, Colorado endodontics office today.
