Setting New Year’s Resolutions for Your Oral Health

It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that only around 8% of people actually stick to their New Year’s resolutions! There are many people who have never been able to successfully keep their resolutions at all. Our problem may lie in the way we think about New Year’s resolutions and our approach to making changes for the better.

Here at Syrpes & Pangborn, we recommend putting together a list of things you’d like to accomplish before 2020 is over. It’s also a good idea to include some oral-health-related items to this list!

Oral Hygiene Resolutions

Below are a few resolutions that, with the right amount of time and effort, can improve your dental and overall health:

  • Brush and floss daily – Set a goal to brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes at a time. Use fluoride toothpaste to help fight cavities. There are plenty of apps that can help you meet your goal, but simply setting an alarm for 2 minutes can also do the job. You should also be flossing every day to keep your gums healthy.
  • Limit sugar consumption – Try to set limits on how much sugar you consume every day. When the enamel of the teeth is exposed to too much sugar, the harmful acids have a better chance of attacking the teeth and causing tooth decay and dental cavities.
  • Quit smoking – The use of tobacco products is the most common cause of severe periodontal disease in the United States. Not only will quitting smoking benefit your dental health, but it will also benefit your overall health.

It’s also a good idea to visit your general dentist for a dental cleaning and a checkup now in order to start the new year with a fresh smile and a clean slate! Healthy teeth can improve confidence and allow you to be proud of your smile!

From all of us at Syrpes & Pangborn, we want to wish our patients a Happy New Year! To make an appointment at our office, please contact Syrpes & Pangborn here in Centennial, Colorado.
